THE BLIND SPOT IS A BANE FOR DRIVERS, PEDESTRIANS, AND BIKERS. SEE WHAT IDEA HAS VOLVO FOR THEM

Despite the increasingly advanced technologies available in trucks, blind spots remain a big problem for drivers and all the people around them. In order to minimize the risks associated with them, Volvo Trucks invented a new safety system.

The manufacturer notices that the driver – regardless of his experience – may not see everything that happens around his vehicle in the event of heavy traffic. Volvo’s new system’s role is to prevent dangerous and stressful situations by detecting other road users who enter blind spots on either side of the truck.

The driver will find out whether cyclists appear in the danger zone thanks to the double radar on each side of the car – we read in the press release.

An accident can happen in a split second. Our extensive accident research is based on decades of analyzing real-world situations, and this new safety system helps the driver prevent potential collisions, says Anna Wrige Berling, director of road safety and product at Volvo Trucks.

The Side Collision Avoidance Support system informs the driver with a red light on the relevant side mirror as soon as someone enters the blind spot. In the situation when the driver signals a lane change with an indicator, the red light starts flashing. A warning tone sounds from where a collision could occur. Those things allow the driver to slow down and the cyclist to pass.

At Volvo Trucks, our long-term vision is zero accidents, and safety is at the heart of everything we do. This new system is another example of our efforts to achieve these goals, concludes Anna Wrige.

This system to protect pedestrians and cyclists will be available worldwide on Volvo FH, FM, and FMX in September. It applies to gas and electric diesel engines. The company announced that Volvo FL and FE models, will receive a new safety system next year.
